U.S. stocks turned higher on Wednesday on investors' hopes
that a compromise could be reached to avoid the "fiscal cliff" after
comments from U.S. House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama.
The Dow Jones
industrial average rose 106.98 points, or 0.83 percent, to 12,985.11 at the
close. The S&P 500 gained 10.99
points, or 0.79 percent, to 1,409.93. The Nasdaq Composite added 23.99 points,
or 0.81 percent, to close at 2,991.78.
