U.S. stocks edged lower on Monday as caution over the
potential for volatility driven by worries about the U.S. "fiscal
cliff" dampened enthusiasm at the start of a seasonally strong period for
equities.
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 51.76 points, or
0.39 percent, to 13,139.08. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 3.49
points, or 0.24 percent, to 1,426.66. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 8.41
points, or 0.28 percent, to 3,012.60.
