In the US markets, the Dow and S&P came off their highs in the final minutes of trading but still finished higher, led by a couple of upbeat economic reports and optimistic comments from China’s new leader.
Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.64% or 82.71 points at 13034.49. Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.77% or 22.99 points at 2973.7. Standard & Poor’s 500 was up 0.16% or 2.23 points at 1409.28.
