US markets closed out a volatile session with half a percent gains amid caution ahead of the government's monthly jobs report and as the US dollar tumbled against the Japanese yen.
The Dow Jones added 80 points, to close at 15,040.62, avoiding a three-day losing streak. The CBOE volatility index ended near 17.
